Investigators said Monica Leigh Perani, 27, of Corning, was driving northwest when a pickup truck driven by an Athens man crossed the center line and struck her vehicle.

The Athens County Coroner’s Office pronounced Perani dead at the scene. The pickup driver was transported by Athens County EMS to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Responding agencies included the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, Athens Police Department, Athens County Fire Department, The Plains Fire Department, Athens County EMS, Athens County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
