TENNESSEE — Two men were arrested Thursday night after Metro Nashville detectives witnessed a drug transaction that led to a police chase on Interstate 24.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, TITANS Unit detectives spotted an apparent drug deal on South 6th Street and attempted to stop a Nissan Altima.
The driver, identified as 21-year-old Anthony L. Powell, refused to stop. An MNPD helicopter tracked the vehicle until officers deployed spike strips. Powell and his passenger, 20-year-old Deonquae Scott, fled on foot near the Briley Parkway entrance ramp but were arrested shortly afterward.
Detectives recovered two handguns along the interstate and found 13.3 grams of cocaine and a digital scale inside the car.
Powell faces multiple charges, including evading arrest by motor vehicle, evading arrest, gun possession during the commission of a felony, and cocaine possession. He was also wanted on an outstanding domestic violence warrant. Police noted that Powell was previously convicted in December 2024 of felony drug possession and unlawful gun possession, receiving a five-year probated sentence.
Scott was charged with evading arrest and misdemeanor drug possession after officers said he had a pill without a prescription. He was previously convicted of felony evading in July and received a two-year probated sentence. Scott was later released on a $4,000 bond.
