A Tennessee correctional facility facing years of safety issues and multiple lawsuits is now under new leadership.
CoreCivic has appointed Senior Warden Allen Beard Jr., a 21-year Air Force veteran with experience in Tennessee, Maryland, and federal prisons, to lead Trousdale Turner Correctional Center. Beard will be joined by two new assistant wardens with a combined 50 years of correctional management experience.
The facility has struggled with riots, understaffing, and violence, generating about 90 new criminal cases annually for the local prosecutor. CoreCivic faces several lawsuits over inmate safety, including allegations of drugs, violence, and inadequate medical care.
CoreCivic said the leadership changes are part of a broader plan to improve staffing and operations at the facility.
