CHATTANOOGA, Tenn — The City of Chattanooga is alerting residents to scammers distributing flyers claiming homeowners have code violations and demanding “compensation.”
According to the Public Works Department, these flyers are being circulated by a private company encouraging residents to either sell their property or hire the company for repairs. The city says the company is not affiliated with or endorsed by Chattanooga.
“These solicitations are not from the City’s Land Development Office or any city department,” said William Gore, Director of the Land Development Office. “Official communication about code violations would come on city letterhead, or an inspector would contact you directly. Their identity can be verified through the city.”
Residents who receive suspicious flyers should:
-
Call (423) 643-7307 for assistance.
-
Verify any potential code violation or city employee by contacting the Land Development Office at (423) 643-5800.
The city emphasizes that no private company has access to official code compliance data.
