PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two men are facing charges after a high-speed chase on I-95 in Delaware County ended with a crash that injured two Pennsylvania state troopers.
Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, troopers tried to stop a red Subaru speeding southbound on I-95 in Tinicum Township. Authorities said the car was stolen.
The driver initially pulled over but sped off as troopers got out of their car. Other officers deployed spike strips a few miles away, successfully deflating the tires, but the driver continued for another half-mile before crashing into a state police vehicle.
Two troopers inside were taken to a hospital, treated and released.
Police arrested Claren Thomas, the driver, and Myron Bell, the passenger. Investigators recovered two guns from the Subaru — one modified with a switch to make it automatic.
Thomas faces more than three dozen counts, including aggravated assault, fleeing police, and firearms offenses. Bell is charged with conspiracy and firearms offenses.
