HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Governor Andy Beshear shared progress on nearly 100,000 rental units being built in western Kentucky following the deadly December 2021 tornadoes that devastated multiple communities.
Developers have finalized property acquisitions in Mayfield, Dawson Springs, and Bowling Green. In Dawson Springs, 48 rental units are planned at the new Marketplace Commons development.
“Remember, we’re rebuilding on both fronts here in Kentucky,” Beshear said. “From the tornadoes in 2021 to the floods in 2022, and we ain’t leaving anybody behind. This was the largest single affordable housing announcement we had made in Kentucky’s history, and now that announcement is becoming a reality.”
Construction on the Dawson Springs units is expected to begin within the next month.
Beshear also highlighted ongoing recovery efforts in eastern Kentucky, announcing $6 million to build 30 new homes in a high-ground community in Knott County, part of a larger plan to develop a total of 200 homes in the area.
These efforts reflect Kentucky’s continued commitment to rebuilding communities impacted by natural disasters and expanding affordable housing options across the state.
