CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The trial of former Chattanooga police officer Lawrence Goodine, who is charged with first-degree murder in the November 2023 death of Kara Akins, has been postponed until next year.
During Goodine’s preliminary hearing, prosecutors presented evidence showing surveillance footage of a man identified as Goodine dragging Akins into a home as she pleaded for him to stop. Akins was later found dead with multiple stab wounds.
Goodine’s trial was initially set to begin this week. However, his attorney, Neil Pinkston, requested additional time to secure an expert witness and a private investigator, leading the court to grant a delay.
A new trial date is expected to be scheduled in the coming months.
