KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) — Oracle has begun laying off employees in Kansas City, with several workers confirming sudden job cuts over the past month.
On August 13, the tech giant filed a notice of intent to lay off more than 300 employees in California and began cutting over 250 positions in Seattle, according to state filings. While Oracle has not filed similar layoff notices in Kansas or Missouri, multiple employees reported receiving unexpected termination notices.
One former employee told KCTV5 that Oracle sent out invites for a virtual meeting, and workers were informed of their layoffs almost immediately after joining. A current employee also confirmed that several coworkers were affected.
The exact number of Kansas City job losses remains unclear, as Oracle has not responded to requests for comment. The company also declined to confirm whether the layoffs are connected to its AI integration efforts announced earlier this year.
Oracle acquired Kansas City-based Cerner in June 2022, a company known for developing programs that streamline patient care. At the time of acquisition, Cerner employed about 13,000 people in the Kansas City area.
