According to the arrest citation, a distraught woman walked out to meet a deputy on the porch with her face bloody and swollen. She identified her boyfriend, 43-year-old Brian Click, as the one who allegedly attacked her and said he had already fled the scene.

The deputy noted that the woman struggled to stand and speak after being knocked unconscious during the attack. She told the deputy she didn’t know what Click had allegedly hit her with besides his fist.

After emergency services arrived, the woman passed out again while responders were arranging to fly her for treatment. At the hospital, doctors placed her on a ventilator and feared she might have a brain bleed, according to the citation.

While deputies searched for Click, dispatch reported that he had called authorities, claiming he had just returned from work and didn’t know what was happening. Deputies went back to the home, but Click had already left.

Later that night, deputies spotted him in a different vehicle on Halls Branch and took him into custody.

While in custody, Click admitted they had argued and fought earlier but claimed he dropped her off at home and left. Deputies noted visible scratch marks on his chest. During questioning, he also denied returning home, but officers saw a vehicle later confirmed to be his driving past the house.

Brian Click was booked into the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center and charged with first-degree assault — domestic violence.
