VINITA, Okla. — Vinita experienced severe flash flooding on Thursday after receiving nearly 10 inches of rainfall, leading to dangerous conditions across the area.
The region was under a flash flood warning early in the morning when reports came in of heavy rain causing streets to resemble lakes. By 7 a.m., nearly four inches had already fallen, and the situation quickly worsened as the day progressed.
By 1 p.m., emergency crews conducted a water rescue in Vinita after a vehicle became trapped in rising floodwaters. Fortunately, the driver escaped safely, and no injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, Craig, Ottawa, Delaware, and Mayes counties remain under an aerial flood warning as authorities continue to monitor conditions and assess potential risks.
