IOWA CITY, Iowa — A Johnson County jury found 44-year-old Dustin Hills of West Branch guilty of indecent exposure on Aug. 27, following an incident involving an 11-year-old child at an Iowa City Walmart in December 2023.
The verdict came after just 12 minutes of deliberation. Hills faces up to two years in prison, as indecent exposure is classified as an aggravated misdemeanor.
According to court documents, Hills entered the Walmart around 4:40 p.m. on Dec. 13, 2023, and followed the child into the toy aisle. The child turned around and saw Hills exposing himself. Surveillance footage supported the child’s testimony and showed them immediately reporting the incident to their parents and store employees.
Hills was arrested on April 2, 2024, and released the next day on a $5,000 bond.
During the trial, testimonies were heard from the child, now 12, and the child’s mother, with evidence presented from the Iowa City Police Department’s investigation.
Assistant Johnson County Attorney Mike Lang served as the prosecutor in the case.
Sentencing details are expected to follow.
